Attentie: Hoewel De Krakeling een plek is voor jeugdtheater, is Zinnia's prachtige eigentijdse performance geschikt voor een publiek van 18+. De voorstelling is onderdeel van het Amsterdam Fringe Festival en heeft daarom een andere doelgroep dan ons reguliere programma. Het bevat naakt en pittige thema's. Theater De Krakeling is een gloednieuwe Fringe-locatie, geboren uit de noodzaak om artiest Zinnia Oberski te huisvesten, na een last-minute annulering van een eerdere locatie.

Attention: Although De Krakeling is a space for youth theatre, Zinnia's beautiful contemporary circus show is for a 18+ audience. This performance is part of the Amsterdam Fringe Festival and therefore has a different audience than our regular program. It contains nudity and touches on difficult themes. Theater De Krakeling is a brand-new Fringe location, born out of the necessity to host artist Zinnia Oberski, after a last-minute cancellation of a previous location. 

‘Dreams of the Small Gods’ is een fascinerende live performance over de drievoudige aard van de vrouw; als dier, als mens en als godin of geestelijk wezen.  

Tijdens de show ziet het publiek de vrouwelijke soloartiest veranderen van dier in mens. In de menselijke incarnatie krijgt ze een visitatie van het gehoornde masker – ‘Magnus’, die haar oproept zichzelf te transformeren. Met zijn hulp wordt ze een mythologisch wezen, deels mens, deels dier en deels oergod.  

Geïnspireerd door de tijdloze wijsheid van sprookjes, mythologie en oude culturen, combineert Dreams of the Small Gods luchtcircus, performancekunst en gemaskerde rituelen om een surrealistische, hypnotiserende wereld te creëren. In een requiem voor verloren wijsheid stelt het menselijke ideeën over heiligheid en godslastering in vraag en onderzoekt het de relatie tussen mensen, dieren en degenen die we onze goden noemen.

Biografie
Performer en maker Zinnia Oberski heeft een uitgebreide circusachtergrond. Ze gebruikt elementen uit fysiek theater, dans en performancekunst om de traditionele circusesthetiek van het bovenmenselijke te doorbreken en zich te concentreren op een kracht die alleen toegankelijk is via kwetsbaarheid. Zinnia's uitvoeringen zijn een communicatiestijl die minder letterlijk is dan woorden en daarom zeer geschikt voor het overbrengen van ideeën die betrekking hebben op het onderbewustzijn of het dierlijke brein. Ze is in 2011 afgestudeerd aan Circomedia (BTEC) en in 2016 afgestudeerd aan ACaPA, Fontys (BA).

‘Dreams of the Small Gods’ is a captivating live performance about the triple nature of woman; as animal, as human and as goddess or spirit being.  

During the show the audience sees the solo female performer morph from animal into human. In the human incarnation she is visited by the horned mask – ‘Magnus’, who calls on her to transform herself. With his help she becomes a mythological creature, part human, part animal and part primal deity.  

Inspired by the timeless wisdom of faerie-tales, mythology and ancient cultures, Dreams of the Small Gods blends aerial circus, performance art and masked ritual to create a surreal, hypnotic world. In a requiem for wisdom lost, it questions human ideas of holiness and profanity and explores the relationship between humans, animals and those we name as our gods.

Biography
Performer and maker Zinnia Oberski has an extensive background in circus. She uses elements of physical theatre, dance and performance art to break the traditional circus aesthetic of the superhuman and focus on a strength that can only be accessed through vulnerability. Zinnia's physical work is a communication which is less literal than words and therefore well suited to conveying ideas that relate to the subconscious or the animal brain. She is a 2011 graduate from Circomedia (BTEC) and a 2016 graduate from ACaPA, Fontys (BA).
