Er zijn hokjes die je kan zien. Daar kan je in kruipen, en je kan er ook weer uit. Dat is anders bij onzichtbare hokjes.

Ben jij meestal het stoerste kind uit de klas? Dan is het moeilijk om te zeggen dat je ook wel eens bang bent, of verdrietig. Of ben jij de kleinste en vindt iedereen jou schattig? Dan ben je nooit de baas van alle spelletjes, terwijl je daar misschien heel goed in bent. Het zou fijn zijn als die onzichtbare hokjes niet bestonden. Dan vindt niemand het gek als je ’s morgens alleen wilde dingen doet, en je ’s middags ineens een mooi prinsesje wilt zijn.  

In de circustheatervoorstelling HOKJE proberen vier acrobaten met salto’s en kunst- en vliegwerk uit hun hokjes te komen. Bij het circus staan de sterke jongens altijd onderaan en zweven de meisjes hoog in de lucht. Maar wat als dat nou eens omgekeerd is? In HOKJE willen de acrobaten niet alleen maar hun kunsten vertonen. De onderman wil laten zien dat hij meer is dan een bonk spieren, en het stille bovenmeisje wil ook wel eens lekker hard schreeuwen. 

Samenwerking Emancipator 
Voor HOKJE heeft Jens van Tricht, schrijver van het boek 'Waarom feminisme goed is voor mannen' en oprichter van Emancipator, inhoudelijk advies gegeven. Tevens heeft emancipator bijgedragen aan het ontwikkelen van de lesbrief voor scholen.

In the circus performance HOKJE, four acrobats try to escape from their boxes with somersaults and their flying skills. At the circus, the strong boys are always at the bottom and the girls float high in the air. But what if that is the other way around? In HOKJE the acrobats don't just want to show their skills. The bottom man wants to show that he is more than just a bunch of muscles, and the quiet top girl also wants to scream loudly.
